From the magnificent Southern Alps to expansive patchwork plains to sheltered bays and attractive towns, the diverse Canterbury region has a wide range of environments and activities. The rivers are ideal for salmon and trout fishing, rafting and jet boating, while horse trekking, wine tasting, gliding, parachuting and bungy-jumping are available on the plains. Geraldine Village In the heart of the South Island affords day trips from the seaside to the high country, and in winter (May-Sept) access to the largest choice of ski-fields of any place in New Zealand.

Eight Ski and snow board fields within an hour which include Mt Hutt, Mt Dobson, Fox Peak and Round hill, an incredible Sixteen Ski and Snow board fields within two hours.

Stay at Aoraki Cottage near Geraldine and take your pick, ski reports available daily at the Geraldine info centre. Also ask Dave at Aoraki Cottage about Ice Skating at Tekapo (May-Sept) or easy guided treks and tours up the Hooker Valley to the base of Aoraki/Mt Cook, Mt Peel or Mt Somers (All year).
