Manawatu

Manawatu and Horowhenua are in the south west of the north island. The southern North Island offers many pleasant diversions including scenic vistas, invigorating mountain air and wilderness solitude.
The wild black sand beaches beaten by tumultuous surf are well patrolled and offer a great fishing challenge. Palmerston North is the centre of the Manawatu and is a good place from which to arrange jet boating and trout fishing on the river, horse trekking or walking through the Ruahine and Tararua ranges, which reward trampers with spectacular views. To the east is the rich farming land of the Wairarapa, a largely unexplored region providing satisfying holidays away from the crowds. To the west the Kapiti district is wild and scenic with popular beach resorts hugging the coast and much to offer in the way of arts and crafts.
