Many of these can be visited via boat charters e.g the Poor Knights Islands, famous for big game fishing and regarded as one of the world's top five dive spots.

Beautiful beaches dot the coastline, from rugged and rocky to sheltered and gentle. Hokianga harbour hosts the occasional visit by dolphins, Orcas & seals.

There's plenty of rugged unspoilt scenery including Hokianga's spectacular sand dunes and the Waipoua Kauri Forest.

There's so much to do: Diving, fishing, parasailing, surfing, windsurfing, kayaking, water skiing, jet skiing, tramping, horse treks, jet boating, escorted cave tours and visits to wildlife refuges, dolphin and whale watch tours, 4x4 quad bike and dune buggy riding are just a few suggestions!

Coromandel
The Coromandel Peninsula is a world of it's own. On both sides, secluded little bays dot the winding coastline, hugging a rugged mountainous interior still covered by native bush and forest. Many alternative lifestylers live here. The peninsula's east and western sides each have their own individual character, and despite its popularity, it is still possible to find secluded beach or a patch of bush with only the sound of the sea or birdsong. On the Western side are a variety of walks, glow-worm caves to explore and the odd character to uncover. Mercury Bay on the Eastern side is a popular holiday destination and there are all the usual attractions of swimming, fishing, kayaking, relaxed shopping, dining on local cuisine and golfing. Hot Water Beach is a bit of a treat with geothermally heated seawater letting you soak in a hot pool at low tide! The south eastern side of the peninsula boasts gorgeous golden sand beaches, Whiritoa, Onemana, and Opoutere being just three examples out of many.
